Reports and Publications

Australasian Historical Archaeology is the annual journal produced by the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology. It is a leading journal for the publication of new research in the historical archaeology of Australia and New Zealand and elsewhere in the Pacific and Asia. Back issues of the journal that are more than five years old can be downloaded here.

The WA Department of Maritime Archaeology Report series started in 1974 with the publication of excavation work on Beacon Island. Since then the series has grown to over 300 titles covering a huge range of subjects relating to the work of the Department. The reports are available through the Western Australian Museum.

The NSW Heritage Library holds a wide range of specialist heritage materials, including conservation management plans, archaeological reports, heritage studies, thematic studies and histories. Some of the reports are available as digital versions to download. Search the catalogue here.

NSW Archaeology Online is a digital archive of historical archaeological reports produced as a result of consultancies and student research. They document historical archaeological field survey, excavation and heritage assessment projects conducted under the NSW Heritage Act. The database was produced in partnership between the University of Sydney Library and the Archaeology of Sydney Research Group, and can be found here.

Terra Australis is a series published by ANU Press, which reports the results of archaeological and related research within the south and east of Asia, though mainly Australia, New Guinea and island Melanesia. Its subject is the settlement of the diverse environments in this isolated quarter of the globe by peoples who have maintained their discrete and traditional ways of life into the recent recorded or remembered past and at times into the observable present.
