Inspiration on Tap

  • Museum of Tropical Queensland 70-102 Flinders Street Townsville Qld 4810 Australia (map)

Gather your network together to uncover the past and explore the future at the upcoming Inspiration on Tap event celebrating National Archaeology Week.

Held in collaboration with the Museum of Tropical Queensland, you’ll be surrounded by history as you hear from James Cook University researchers Dr Maddy McAllister and Dr Nigel Chang about their exciting work in the archaeological sphere.

Dive into North Queensland’s submerged history

Learn about the fascinating work of a maritime archaeologist as you sit as you sit beneath a life-size replica of HMS Pandora at the Museum of Tropical Queensland. Hear about Dr Maddy McAllister’s adventures among the Great Barrier Reef as she investigated the shipwrecks that lie there. Find out what these forgotten vessels reveal about North Queensland’s past, from the people who once navigated the same waters we sail today to the objects that await discovery at the bottom of the sea.

Discover ways to uncover the past to build the future

Excavating an archaeology site has greater potential than solely learning about past human activities. Join Dr Nigel Chang on an exploration of using archaeology to unearth insights relevant to current communities. Find out how archaeological principles and projects can help us build greater connections and plan for the future — a quest that JCU-led projects in both Townsville and South East Asia have helped to progress.

When: 6.30-8pm, Thursday 25 May 2023

Where: Museum of Tropical Queensland, 70-102 Flinders Street, Townsville Qld 4810
