Exploring Archaeology: Modern Archaeology and Career Pathways

What is archaeology and how do we do archaeology in Australia?!? The Department of Archaeology and History at La Trobe University is pleased to bring you a series of exciting online videos for National Archaeology Week this year, showcasing the HUGE scope of archaeological investigation in Australia today.

We will be exploring archaeological education, bioarchaeology, landscape techniques, cultural heritage management, palaeoanthropology and archaeological science. Current and past students will also discuss pathways into archaeology and the realities of being an archaeologist in Australia: that there are really diverse opportunities, lots of work around and interesting pathways for study. These videos have been designed with senior secondary students and secondary educators in mind and are suitable for use within the classroom to learn more about contemporary archaeology.

Presenters:

  • Afua Adjei - a current Master of Arts (research) student who will discuss her research in the field of bioarchaeology and progression from undergraduate to postgraduate study.

  • Dr Angeline Leece - who will discuss her career as a palaeoanthropologist and archaeological consultant.

  • Professor Andy Herries - who will discuss his research on the transition to modern humans along South Africa's southern coast.
