  • Diving historic shipwrecks in Port Phillip Bay

Danielle Wilkinson and Liam Phillips, maritime archaeology team - Heritage Victoria, Department of Transport and Planning

Come 'diving' with us as we work to record, monitor, protect, discover and share the amazing underwater cultural heritage sites in Port Phillip Bay. Since December 2022, the maritime archaeology team at Heritage Victoria have renewed shipwreck diving as part of our heritage responsibilities with a number of goals and objectives that will continue for years to come. We're also calling on divers and diving groups to help us monitor shipwrecks as part of our Maritime Heritage at Risk program and to report new finds as part of the Shipwreck Discovery Program.

  • Pandora Legacy Project – update on the digitization of an archive

Dr Maddy McAllister, Senior Curator, Maritime Archaeology – Queensland Museum Network and James Cook University

In celebration of National Archaeology Week, Maddy will give an update of the digitisation of the HMS Pandora archaeological archive at the Museum of Tropical Queensland. In partnership with Project DIG (BHP and Queensland Museum), the museum has nearly completed full digitisation of over 45 years of HMS Pandora investigations and excavations. In total, approximately 20,000 images (colour and black and white slides and negatives), over 200 hours of footage, thousands of pages of documents, large-scale site plans and artefact illustration, x-rays, field registration books and archaeological journals are now digital. The next phase is catalogue completion and open access for the public via the QMN DAMS (digital asset management system).
